The Mitsubishi Mirage has been officially discontinued after a decade and will not be available in the United States from 2025. With the Mirage’s discontinuation, the Nissan Versa will be the only car remaining under $20,000.

Mitsubishi Mirage Discontinued After a Decade – Details

Design

The Mitsubishi Mirage was a small and practical car with a simple design. The Mirage hatchback and Mirage G4 sedan were very affordable. Both cars were budget-friendly and functional. The Mirage had a basic interior with essential features like comfortable seats, a simple dashboard, and enough cargo space. The features matched the low price.

Power and Performance

The Mirage had a 3-cylinder engine with 78 horsepower. It offered good fuel efficiency, getting 35 MPG in the city, 41 MPG on the highway, and 37 MPG combined with a CVT. However, its limited power made it one of the least powerful new cars available.

Price and Competition

The Mitsubishi Mirage competes with the Nissan Versa, which is one of the last new cars available for under $20,000. The Nissan Versa, priced at $17,820, offers slightly more power and more premium features and interior.

In 2024, the Mitsubishi Mirage starts at $18,015 for the hatchback and $19,115 for the sedan in the United States. The affordable price is a key reason why the Mitsubishi Mirage is popular among buyers in the U.S.

You Want to Buy One? – Its Last Chance

According to Mitsubishi’s North American spokesperson, Jeremy Barnes, dealer stock of the Mirage is expected to last until summer 2025. This gives buyers a limited time to purchase one of the last new Mirages available.

The discontinuation of the Mirage marks the end of an era for truly affordable cars in the U.S. market, highlighting the trend of rising prices and the decline of low-cost subcompact cars.

Consequently, the Nissan Versa now stands alone as the only new car under $20,000, catering to budget-conscious buyers. The end of the Mitsubishi Mirage reflects the changing automotive market, where finding affordable options is becoming increasingly difficult.

Potential buyers should act quickly if they want to secure one of the last remaining Mirages before they are gone.
